AYL U14 Match Report - AEK Boco 1 Bitton 0 Print E-mail

The fourth clash of the season between two top sides was never going to be easy and a heavy pitch and gusting wind did little to make matters any better. Boco made much of the early play but it seemed to stay on the right side of the pitch and did not seem to get towards the Bitton goal, thanks to the huge Bitton back four. Bradley was first to break ranks and twisted and turned his way into the box only to see his shot go inches wide. This allowed the team to push harder although being slightly slow to the ball saw us give away a couple of early corners. These were eagerly defended and the ball was soon back into the Bitton Half. Despite the team’s best efforts with shots from Harry , Will  and Jack Green the ball did not seem to want to go in the goal. Boco had all the possession and started to create some great passing moves. This led to the ball being placed in the box by Alex Whale for Jack Robson to take on the keeper and see it bounce off the post.

The second half  started well with Boco continuing where they left off. On the 45 minute mark the Bitton goalkeeper took a goal kick into the wind that fell at the feet of Bradley. Brad was quick to take the opportunity to surge forward an used his skill to feed the ball into the box. Jack green saw his chance pulled back his right foot and hit the ball hard and low into the left hand corner to score a very important goal. Bitton then started to put on the pressure and BOCO found themselves defending their own half more often than was comfortable. The team gave away some free kicks in crucial areas but as usual Jack Madge took it all in his stride and made the difficult job of goalkeeping look so easy. Olly West. Keaton Lacey, Tom Norley  and Luke Withey ensured the back four remained strong and ensured the danger of the nippy strikers was dealt with and cleared.  A very evenly matched second half meant BOCO came away with a well deserved 1-0 win in difficult conditions against worthy opponents.

Yate Utd 0-2 AEK-BOCO

An away game at Yate on a cold winters morning on a sticky small pitch is always a win first performance second priority. We welcome back Keaton after a long lay off and had all 15 players available.

We started brightly, passing and moving with Jack Robson looking lively up front. The ball seemed to find its way to Jack Green constantly in the first 10 minute with him taking on the left back and crossing in to the box and it was only some dogged defending that kept the scores even. The midfield was a battle, we had lots of possession but out final ball just let us down. On 20 minutes a ball won in midfield was shifted quickly to Greener who squared the ball to Harry whos 18 yard shot was driven straight at the keeper. Straight after Yate pressed and a last ditch tackle by Tom Norley stopped a goal scoring opportunity, the ball was kept alive and worked through the middle and out to Greener, who took on two defenders and earned a BOCO corner. Greener floated the corner to the near post where Tom Norley had made a great run, he twisted his neck and powered the header in to the top corner, 1-0, great goal, the patience had paid off. Paul made a few changes with Will coming on the left and it wasn't long before he was rampaging down the wing and some great passing between Will and Joe nearly led to another chance. By now, Yate were on the back foot and they stuck to their task and they frustrated BOCO with their never say die attitude.

With 33 minutes gone, Yate found some space outside the box and a late tackle conceded a free kick. Last year they scored two 25 yarders so this was a chance, fortunately the shot was a bit weak and rolled straight to Madgey. We worked hard and tried to pass for the rest of the half but the score remained 1-0 at half time.

Second half and Alex seemed to fly out the traps with some great tackles and seemed to dictate the play, we looked safe at the back with everyone doing their jobs and it looked like the flanks was where we were going to get our joy. Greener earns another corner and almost identical to the goal, Tom climbs above his marker and heads one over the bar. 16 minutes in to the second half, Alex is first to the ball, lays it to Ollie who floats a ball down to the line to Greener, he gets another corner. Carbon copy, Tom climbs, powers the ball against the bar, it drops 3 yard and Brad was on hand to slot it in to the top right corner (he was aiming for the bottom left).

Any breaks Yate had we seemed to deal with and we kept pushing to finish the game off. On 21 minutes Brad drove a diagonal ball to Greener who looked up, pulled it back to an oncoming Harry who just got under the ball and lofted over the bar. From that goal kick Yate kept possession with a 5 pass move that ended with the ball crossed in to the box. Madgey flew in to action and plucked the ball out of the air. By now the pitch was dictating how the game was going to be played and credit to both sides they ran, tackled, battled and tried to play. Both sides had a few more half chances but the game was to end 2-0 to BOCO.

To keep a clean sheet again was a credit to the defence and the keeper. We battled in the middle and created loads on the flanks. A great team performance that was a potential banana skin for us so it was nice to come out with a win. Credit to Yate for all their efforts and we hope their season turns around. Special mention to number 14 in defence, he worked his socks of to give Jack Robson one of his hardest games this season. Keep going boys, well done.

Manager says..... Good win in difficult conditions Boco 1 Bitton 0 Print E-mail

Big win today for the boys. Difficult game against well organised opposition in conditions not suited to flowing football.  The wind was swirling and the pitch was sticky which made it difficult for us.   Fair play to Bitton who set themselves up to make it difficult for us, but we kept going and matched them physically, whilst also trying to play our football.  Final ball could have been better but having said that we still created a number of goalscoring opportunities.  The lads really worked hard for each other today and it was a well deserved victory in a game that in past seasons we may have dropped points.  The fitness work we are putting in is paying off and it will be needed in the coming weeks on pitches that will be energy sapping.  Having a good squad is also paying dividends as we are able to make changes when needed, and all 15 boys are playing their part.  The effort that all of the boys (and parents) are making to train twice per week is fantastic and it demonstrates the desire we have to win things this year and continue our progression.  The pitch could have been worse today but thanks to the efforts of the groundstaff and Deans work late on Saturday to get out on the pitch on the tractor to drag it, it wasn't too bad.  It is appreciated greatly by myself, Andy and all of the boys.  Special mentions today for Jack Madge (goalkeeper).  Although Jack did not have a save of note to make, his kicking from back passes on a difficult surface, and his handling from crosses was first class.  Now the hard part is to get him working harder in training :-)  Well done today boys...... big step towards the prize we are after.  Paul

Andy and I were expecting a tough game today and that is exactly what we got. All credit to Yate as they played with tremendous determination and were a credit to their manager.  As everyone knows, there is real completion for places amongst the squad of 15 and today we saw the benefit of that competition, as well as the extra fitness training we have been doing.  On a pitch which did not make for good football we still tried to play our normal game, and showed a patience which is needed sometimes to break teams down.  Both goals were from set pieces and I think that is something extra we are bringing to our game.  It was pleasing to see Tom Norley score the first and create the second to cap a great performance from the skipper. Another game gone by and 3 points closer to achieving something, but now the real hard work starts.  It's a great bunch of lads, they are working hard and I hope everyone is enjoying watching them grow in to a top team.  Please give them all the support and praise they deserve. Paul
