Well Boys, we knew we had the toughest of all the quarter final draws before we kicked off and our opposition didn’t disappoint us. Right from the kick-off they were quick, strong and determined and I think we were a bit shell shocked by how quick they came out of the blocks. We managed to keep them at bay and then started to impose our passing on the game and as the half wore on I think we looked more likely to score. You know it’s a good game when the first half goes by so quick and a nil – nil at half time, was I think a fair reflection on the game.
We told the boys what was at stake in the next 30 mins and looked for a big response, normally we find a bit more space in the second half so we said be patient.
Swindon came flying out the blocks again and had us on the back foot for 10 mins but again, as a team we defended well and started winning the 50-50s. Our wide players started to see more of the ball and our forwards stepped up a gear.
A fantastic pass from Jack Robson played in Greener who was going like a steam train down the wing, he cut inside and slotted the ball passed the advancing keeper to put us 1-0 up. To the boy’s credit, they never sat back, they went in search for another one.
10 mins from time a great individual run from Jack Robson saw him get his head up and pull the ball back for Tommy to unleash an unstoppable half volley into the top of the net 2-0.
Swindon never stopped and it took a fantastic team effort to see the game out. I would say that’s probably our best performance (Not the prettiest) of the season because of the quality of the opposition. They made our midfield battle for every ball, our forwards work hard for scraps and our defence and keeper had to concentrate for 60 mins, another clean sheet and a game that the boys will learn so much from.
Loads of respect for Swindon for the way the game was played and with the attitude afterwards, we wish them all the success in their league and cup final.
Well to every single player Sunday, you stood up and were counted; you should all be proud of yourselves and look forward to the semi final on Sunday 21st March 10.30 Greenbank. Come on boy’s one last push for a final.
Good Luck
Chris
